A “full of friction” video calling app has just been launched by Google to give a strong contention to Skype and other video calling applications. According to Amit Fulay, Duo’s Product Manager at Google, “Video calling is full of friction right now,” with launch of this app.
Although Hangout was already a full-fledged chatting, and voice and video calling application from Google, Duo will be adding a whole lot of easiness and smoothness to your video calling experience. The development of Duo was announced at the launch of Allo, another interactive instant messaging application from the tech giant, earlier this year, and it is out now.
Fulay also added that both Allo and Duo are lighter and simpler applications. Talking about the newly launched app, Google’s Product Manager mentions, “It is as easy as making a phone call.” He says that it is for those who want a fast and easy video calling application on their phone.
As per a spokesperson of Google, Duo will be soon available for everyone, on all platforms, in all regions. (By the time, you will be reading this story, this app will be available free of charge on your smartphone’s App Store.
With quick installation and easy setup, Duo has the potential to become a widely-accepted app, but when there are competitors like Skype, FaceTime, Facebook Messenger, Snapchat, and WhatsApp (which also is planning to add video calling to its main app), the way for Google Duo does not appear to be a bed of roses.
